For my final major project at university, I created a brochure all about Japan and Japanese culture, a kind of guide which could be used by travellers as a way to learn more about the country before setting off. I took the experience from my own trip and collected as many useful resources as possible into one, easy to to understand place. I also used the opportunity to try and dis spell some myths about the country and travelling around it.
I combined western print practices and with some Japanese style finishes, including stab binding. In order to give a more authentic Japanese feel, I finished the cover with a laser engraved, wooden cover and a partially wrapped spine, wrapped in vintage Kimono material. The interior also included Jaapanese style, gold Unryu end papers.
The brochure was a fun project that took many months to complete, I spent a lot of time collecting the information for the copy, so much so that the overall design might have suffered. There are definitely things I would change about the final product, number one being the length. The final book ended up amounting to 200 pages of information. If I were to look at this project again my first priority would be to cut the page count.
